No. 9 ONU proves to be too much for WBB

ADA, Ohio -- The Heidelberg University women's basketball team could not recover from an early first quarter deficit, as they fell at No. 9 Ohio Northern, 82-49.

Having dropped three straight, the Student Princes stand at 6-10, 3-6 in the OAC.

Marisa Liburdi scored 12 points for the Student Princes while Theresa Jackson added 10. Liburdi added a team-high eight rebounds.

After falling behind 4-0, Ohio Northern scored 15 unanswered points to take a commanding lead. The Student Princes trailed 17-6 after the opening quarter, and could not erase the deficit.

A 3-pointer from Aianna Wilson cut the ONU lead to 35-25 with less than a minute before the half. Cheyenne Raker drained a pair of free throws in the final seconds of the frame, giving the home team a 12-point advantage at the half.

The Polar Bears drained back-to-back threes early in the third quarter to push their lead to 47-28.

Ohio Northern controlled the tempo for the remainder of the game -- leading by as many as 36 points.

ONU shot 50% from three (9 of 18) compared to Heidelberg's 25% (5 of 20).

The Polar Bear bench outscored the HU bench 38-10.

Heidelberg hosts Wilmington College (10-5, 6-2) on Saturday afternoon. Tip off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
