Box Score TIFFIN -- For the Heidelberg University women's soccer team, it seems like it's feast or famine during the non-conference portion of the schedule. Fortunately, the Student Princes had a feast on Tuesday.
After playing 220 minutes without scoring a goal over the weekend, the Tricolor netted four goals in a 4-2 triumph over The College of Wooster. The Berg improved to 3-1-2 while the Fighting Scots fell to 2-4-1.
Erica Campbell continued her impressive freshman campaign when she scored her fourth goal of the season in the 4th minute. Campbell broke free down the left wing then cut back between two Wooster defenders and drilled a shot past the Wooster keeper from 15 yards out.
Abigail Callahan scored her first two collegiate goals in a three-minute flurry near the end of the first half. After a foul on Wooster, defender Darby Moloney quickly ran up to the ball before the Scots could settle in defensively. Her restart, from 40 yards out on the right flank, curled right into the forehead of Callahan. The freshman redirected into the side netting to put HU up 2-0 in the 39th minute.
In the 42nd minute, Sydney Herrington crossed the ball into the penalty area from the right corner. Callahan aggressively beat the defender to the ball and right-footed it past a diving Scot keeper.
Trailing 3-0 at halftime, Wooster didn't go quietly. In the 54th minute, Harper Jones made a run down the left side and fed Kennedy Payne for a goal. The tally snapped HU goalkeeper Alexandra Farmer's personal shutout streak at 394:34.
Ten minutes later, Erica White slipped a shot past Farmer on a long run on a counterattack.
Wooster nearly found an equalizer in the 77th minute. A long ball was played toward the Heidelberg end. Farmer, off her line, was unable to swat it away. Instead, it was headed toward the corner where a Scot player volleyed it toward the net. Farmer deftly scrambled back and backhanded away from the goal line. Another shot by Wooster was blocked off the line.
Less than three minutes later, Maddy Hines gave HU some breathing room with an insurance goal in the 81st minute. The freshman scored her first collegiate goal off a free kick just outside the top of the box.
Heidelberg was outshot 20-16, with Farmer notching 13 saves.
