Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer victorious on Senior Day

TIFFIN -- One goal was enough for the Heidelberg University Women's Soccer team to emerge victorious on Senior Day, grabbing a critical win in the push to qualify for the OAC Tournament. Prior to the contest, Heidelberg recognized nine players for their contributions to the program -- Brigid Enright, Caitlyn Cross, Yaniah Powell, Baylie Phillips, Syd Hewer, Alayna Hahn, and the three Olivias … Olivia Perry, Olivia Wallace, and Olivia Dulay.

With two games to play in the regular season, Heidelberg is in a three-way tie for the sixth spot in the conference along with Marietta and Baldwin Wallace. HU and BW square off on Wednesday in Tiffin.

Despite the narrow margin on the scoreboard, Heidelberg was the dominant team on Saturday. HU outshot the Muskies, 29-4 -- a margin that included at least two shots off the crossbar.

In the 33rd minute, Dulay maintained possession near midfield with a nifty spin move before lofting a pass ahead to Hewer. Hewer took one touch before laying a through-ball ahead to speedy Brianna Braatz. The sophomore used a touch to get past the keeper before burying a shot to the far post.

As they did a year ago, Braatz and Hewer continue to fight for the team lead in points and are currently tied. Braatz has nine goals and one assist while Hewer has eight goals and three assists.

Idle for large stretches of the game, Enright made a dynamite save in the waning seconds of the first half. Diving to her right, she got a hand on a well-struck low shot, then regrouped enough to force the shot off the rebound to sail high. She finished with three saves to earn her fifth shutout of the season and 17th for her career (fourth-most in program history.

The important showdown with the Yellow Jackets is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start at Hidden Valley on Wednesday.
