Box Score TIFFIN – The Heidelberg University women's soccer team was unable to find an equalizer late in their match against John Carroll on Tuesday. The Blue Streaks scored an early second half goal that proved to be the difference as the Berg fell to 7-7 on the season.
KEY STATS
Heidelberg had a rough time getting their offense going as they were out-shot 20-6 in the match.
Alexandra Farmer put forth a valiant effort in goal and made six saves in the contest.
The Student Princes were unable to win a corner kick in the entire match while the Blue Streaks registered eight.
FIRST HALF
The match took a while to find any sort of rhythm, as the two sides played a game of possession early, with neither team recording a shot until over 10 minutes in when John Carroll had an attempt blocked.
Heidelberg's lone shot on goal in the period came in the 17th minute when Kristen Keenan played a ball on goal, but it was saved to keep the match scoreless.
The most dangerous chance of the first half took place in the 42nd minute off a corner kick by JCU. A Blue Streak player was able to get a head on the ball to send it towards an open net, but Darby Moloney was there to head it away, preventing the goal.
That would be the end of the action for the half, as they entered the break scoreless.
John Carroll held a 7-1 edge in shots in the period and also had five corner kicks, while the Berg had none.
SECOND HALF
John Carroll pressed forward right away to start the second half, and it provided a few dangerous chances. About two minutes into the period, a shot by Bailey Fischer looked to be past Farmer, but it hit the post and stayed out of the goal.
In the 65th minute, Danielle Rathfon found open space from about 20 yards out, but her shot sailed just right of the frame.
The Blue Streaks finally broke through in the 68th minute when a shot from about 15 yards went just over the outstretched arms of Farmer and into the side netting to make it 1-0 in favor of JCU.
Despite JCU maintaining the possession for the majority of the remainder of the half, the Berg would put together one more scoring threat. In the 88th minute, Amanda Kilway fired a shot on goal, but the Blue Streak keeper made the save to preserve their first OAC win.
