Box Score 2 TIFFIN – The Heidelberg University volleyball team split a pair of matches as a part of a tri-match on Saturday in Seiberling Gymnasium. The Student Princes defeated OAC foe Muskingum in straight sets to open the day before falling to 24th-ranked Case Western Reserve in four sets to conclude the day.
KEY STATS
Sarah Parker had 11 kills against Muskingum and 15 against Case, bringing her career total to an even 1,100. That moves her into 8th place in Heidelberg history, passing Laurie Patrick, who had 1,096 kills from 2004-07 for the Student Princes.
After hitting .484 in their first set against Muskingum, Heidelberg's attack was only above the .200 mark for one set the remainder of the day.
HEIDELBERG 3 MUSKINGUM 0
The Student Princes had a hot start in the match against Muskingum. They rolled in the first set 25-12 and made just one attacking error. They were not as solid in the next two sets, but it was still enough to get the win, as they finished off the match in straight sets to remain unbeaten in Ohio Athletic Conference play.
Jamie Kluding led the Berg with 13 kills in the win. Rachel Raimondo had 26 digs in the match while Sydney Moore and Kluding each had 13.
#24 CASE WESTERN RESERVE 3 HEIDELBERG 1
Unlike the start of their first match of the day, the Berg came out sluggish in their match with No. 24 Case Western Reserve. The Spartans had a solid first set with a .424 attack percentage as they took the first set 25-15 over the Student Princes.
After taking a quick 11-7 edge in the second set, Heidelberg allowed Case (18-3) to battle back, as the score was tied up at 23 late in the set. A kill by Parker and a bad set by the Spartans finished out the set though as the Berg evened things up at one set apiece.
The third and fourth sets were both rough for the Berg defense, as they couldn't keep up, falling 25-18 in the third and 25-20 in the fourth as Case left Tiffin with the win.
Parker had a team-high 15 kills while Kluding (12 kills) and Janessa Scott (10 kills) each reached double-digits.
Heidelberg's defense was unable to stop the top two hitters for the Spartans, as Haley Kauffman (17 kills, .500 pct) and Kayla Pfaff (15 kills, .429 pct) each had big matches for Case.
