TIFFIN -- In a battle of Top 25 teams, nothing went right for the No. 21 Heidelberg University men's basketball team. The Student Princes were steamrolled by No. 17 Mount Union, 82-56.
Heidelberg (12-3, 7-2 OAC) shot a season-worst 34.3% from the floor … a worst-in-three-years 16% from beyond the arc … and a worst-in-five years 46.2% from the line in the loss.
Mount Union (13-2, 7-2 OAC), on the other hand, shot 53.2% from the floor behind a season-high 19 points off the bench by Andrew Keller.
With 13 points,
Zane Leitwein was the lone 'Berg player to reach double figures.
Tied at 12 midway through the first half, the Purple Raiders closed the half on a 30-8 run. It seemed like everything the visitors tried worked, including a number of acrobatic shots near the basket. All the while, Heidelberg found little success despite a number of different looks.
Up 22 at half, Mount led by as many as 31 in the second half.
Seth Hohman had a team-high eight rebounds while
Eric Panning added seven.
Isaiah Young had a game-high four assists.
The Student Princes welcome Baldwin Wallace (11-4, 6-2) to Tiffin on Wednesday. Tipoff with the Yellow Jackets is scheduled for 7 p.m.
