DEFIANCE -- The Heidelberg University volleyball team dispatched Defiance on their home court on Tuesday evening, knocking off the Yellow Jackets in four sets.
The Berg took care of Defiance, 25-21, 25-16, 23-25, 25-22 for the 3-1 victory. The win improves HU's record to 6-3 while Defiance fall to 1-9.
The Student Princes saw an efficient offensive front that combined for a .268 hitting percentage and an outstanding 58 kills. Setter Anna McNabb facilitated the offense collecting 46 assists on the evening. Alyssa Crusey collected 13 kills en route to an impressive .524 hitting percentage. Freshman Amy Feczer added 10 kills in her three sets, while hitting at a .471 clip. To round out the front line, Laura Schrag -- a Defiance native -- had a homecoming to remember, as she smashed 12 kills on a .450 hitting percentage, and she collected the lone Heidelberg block on the evening.
Defensively, the Student Princes scooped up 67 digs. Sydney Moore collected a team-high 17, while libero Taylor Arbogast chipped in with 15. Heidelberg impressed at the serving line with seven team aces. Maddie Szawranskyj lead the way with three, while McNabb, Moore, Arbogast, and Jordann Gudorf each collected one a piece.
On the other end, the Yellow Jackets committed 38 total errors on the night to aide in the Student Princes' victory.
Heidelberg is back in action when they take on three ranked opponents at the Wittenberg Fall Classic this weekend. The team faces Ithaca on Friday afternoon, before seeking a rematch with Thomas More in the evening. Berg fell to the Saints at the Bluffton Spiketacular this past week in straight sets. The ladies finish off the weekend on Saturday morning vs. Hope College at 10 a.m.
