TIFFIN -- Heidelberg University women's soccer team was defeated by Alma College Friday afternoon at Hoernemann Stadium by a final score of 3-0.
With the loss, the Student Princes even their record at 3-3 while the Scots improve to 2-3 on the year.
After a scoreless first half, Alma got on the board in the 53rd minute when Makenzie Rajewski headed in a corner kick by Lexi Moyer. The Scots doubled their lead in the 67th when Lauren Sollestre beat the offside line, rounded goalkeeper Alexandra Farmer, and finished into an empty net. The goal was Sollestre's second on the year.
Heidelberg's best opportunity came in the 80th minute. Erica Campbell made a long run into the penalty area on the right side, then drew contact. While she didn't draw a penalty, she managed to play the ball to the right foot of a sprinting Macy Zachary. Zachary's shot at a wide-open net sailed high.
Alma capped the win with a goal in the 88th minute by Kristina Berzkalns.
Heidelberg was outshot, 22-14. In the loss, Alexandra Farmer made seven saves, including a few exceptional diving stops.
The Student Princes will look to rebound on Saturday, when Trine University travels to Hoernemann Stadium for a 4 p.m. match.
