TIFFIN -- Freshman Bekah Thomas led the Heidelberg University women's soccer team to a shutout victory over Defiance College on Saturday afternoon at Hoernemann Stadium. The midfielder scored both goals for The Berg in just her second collegiate start.
With the win, the Student Princes improved to 3-1, while Defiance dropped to 0-4.
Thomas got things going for Heidelberg early by finishing off a cross from McKenzie Perry in the 11th minute. Thomas hooked a right footed shot from the front side of the penalty area to the back post for her first collegiate goal.
Defiance's best scoring chance came in the 53rd minute when Whitney Webb struck a free kick just high of the crossbar.
Erica Campbell got involved in the action in the 66th minute when she played a nice through ball to Thomas who was there to drill home her second goal of the game. The assist was Campbell's third of the season. Thomas came close to a hat-trick when she saw a shot ping off the crossbar in the 51st.
In goal, Alexandra Farmer stopped both Yellow Jackets' shots that found the frame.
Heidelberg is back in action on Tuesday, September 11 at 4 p.m. when Olivet visits Hidden Valley Soccer Complex for a non-conference matchup.
