HIRAM - In a game twice-delayed by lightning, the Heidelberg University women's soccer team defeated Hiram College by a score of 2-1.

With the win, the Student Princes improved to 2-1 on the young season, while the Terriers drop to 0-3. Junior Erica Campbell continued her blistering start to the season by scoring both Heidelberg goals to secure the victory.

Campbell, the reigning OAC Offensive Player of the Week, put The Berg on the board in the 34th minute.  On a restart from near midfield, Campbell took a pass in space. She dribbled ahead and struck the ball from 30 yards out.  The ball short-hopped the Terrier keeper and skipped into the net for the goal.

Hiram would get on the board in the 73rd minute when sophomore Courtney Wendel picked up a ball on the right wing before beating two defenders and hitting a high shot to the back post to tie the game at one a piece.

Campbell tacked on her second goal of the game in the 82nd minute to put Berg ahead for good when she picked up a loose ball about 40 yards from goal. She took on her defender, swiveled at the top of the box and dispatched the ball into the back of the net off the goalkeeper's fingertips -- Campbell's fifth goal of the season.

In goal, Alexandra Farmer tallied an impressive eight saves on the evening. In the 61st minute, the senior made two outstanding back-to-back saves on a Hiram odd-man rush to preserve the one goal lead.

The Student Princes host a varsity/JV doubleheader on Saturday. Varsity hosts Defiance College at 1 p.m., with the second squad battling Internationals SC thereafter.  Both contests will be held at Hoernemann Stadium.
