UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS – The Heidelberg University wrestling team fell on the road on Tuesday at John Carroll in their second OAC dual of the season. The Student Princes got off to a good start, but the host Blue Streaks then rolled off four-straight victories to go on to win the dual 25-9. Heidelberg falls to 1-1 in OAC duals while JCU improves their record to an even 1-1 in conference action.
Tyler Price started things off for the Berg at 125, and he wrestled his way to a solid 8-4 decision to give the Student Princes an early 3-0 lead.
In the 133-pound bout, Ryan Hornack found himself in trouble early and was pinned in 1:22 as JCU took a 6-3 lead.
Justin Kihn quickly tied the score back up for HU when he won a 6-2 decision at 141, making the team score tied at six.
From there, John Carroll picked up four consecutive wins, with three by decision and one major decision to take command of the scoreboard.
With Heidelberg desperately needing a victory, Dillen Decker did just that at 184. The freshman picked up an 8-5 decision, making the score 19-9 with two bouts left.
The Student Princes were unable to mound a comeback, however, as JCU won the final two bouts by slim decision to win the dual 25-9.
Heidelberg will stay on the road this weekend as they travel to Illinois for the Pete Willson Wheaton Invite, which takes place on both Friday and Saturday and is hosted by Wheaton College.
