MSOC: Heidelberg fall on the road in Upstate New York

CANTON, New York -- The Heidelberg University men's soccer team fell on the road in their season opener at St. Lawrence University, 1-0.

With the loss, the Student Princes dropped to 0-1-0 on the season, while SLU jumped out to a 1-0-0 record.

KEY STATS

Senior Jake Kress started in goal for The Berg, stopping four shots over the course of the 90 minutes.

Joseph Tallarico paced Heidelberg's offense with three shots, all of which found the frame.

HOW IT HAPPENED

St. Lawrence held the edge on shots with 17, compared to HU's seven. Heidelberg's best opportunity came in the 27th minute, when Tallarico saw two separate shots saved by the Saints' goalkeeper, Ben Kelty. The Student Princes' defense was finally beaten with 31 seconds remaining in the first half, when Charlton Kelly notched the only goal of the game. Heidelberg and SLU would exchange attempts on goal in the second half, but the Saints held on the for the narrow victory.  

BEYOND THE PITCH

The match versus St. Lawrence served as the collegiate debut for sophomore Malik Mohammed and freshmen Simon Joseph, Antonio Demonte, and Sebastian Salazar.

The Berg will be back in action tomorrow afternoon at 12:00pm at the North Country Classic at Clarkson University.
