MSOC strikes for six, Alston scores hat trick

BEREA, Ohio -- Needing a crucial conference win, the Heidelberg University men's soccer team exploded for six goals. The team got what they needed with a resounding 6-2 win at Baldwin Wallace University on Tuesday evening.

Freshman Malachi Alston surely made the most of his first appearance this season, recording a hat trick. Alston is the first Student Prince to score three times in a match since Greg Raimondo accomplished the feat in 2013.

After being shutout in three straight matches, freshman Leo Robles made sure the trend did not continue. Jarod Chavez played a ball into the box for Robles to strike and put past BW keeper Patrick Mehal. The goal was Robles's second of the season.

Midway through the first half, Danny Ruple -- the OAC's leading scorer -- got the Yellow Jackets on the board. Ruple's 17th goal of the season was assisted by Bryce Posner.

Alton's first goal of the evening came just before halftime off a pass from Alex Aviles.

Less than six minutes into the second half, sophomore Rodrigo Meza scored his fourth goal of the season, providing some insurance for the Berg.

HU added three more goals within a 10-minute span, pushing to a commanding five-goal advantage. Two of the goals coming from Alston, combined with a BW own goal. Freshman defender Chase Paulson recorded an assist on Alston's second goal.

A harmless Yellow Jacket goal late in the game did not faze Heidelberg.

Desperate for an OAC win, the Berg improves to 10-2-1, 3-2-1 in the conference. Baldwin Wallace slips to 5-9-2, 1-4-1 in OAC play.

Junior goalkeeper Jake Kress made six saves in the match.

The Berg hits the road again Saturday for a match at Marietta College. Kickoff is slated for 4 p.m.
