NEW CONCORD, Ohio -- The Heidelberg University men's lacrosse team wrapped up its third season with an 11-6 victory over host Muskingum University on Saturday. Heidelberg finished 6-11 overall, 3-6 in the Ohio Athletic Conference.
Heidelberg got on the board early as Weaver scored 62 seconds into the contest. After a Muskie goal tied the contest with 7:58 left in the first, the Student Princes responded 28 seconds later. It was Weaver again, this time on a feed from Hunter Edwards.
The hosts scored with less than a minute remaining in the first half, and hoped to carry some momentum into the intermission. Alex Bruder, however, thwarted those hopes -- scoring a mere seven seconds before the break. Weaver picked up the assist on the critical goal which put HU up 5-2 at half.
The Muskies struck first blood in the second half -- a Josh Fletcher goal 39 seconds into the third quarter. The Tricolor answered with two tallies -- one by McCarthy and one by Bruder.
Muskingum responded with back-to-back goals before McCarthy nabbed his third with 1:39 left in the third.
Up 8-5 after three quarters, Hodson scored 88 seconds into the fourth. His goal was the fourth straight HU goal on which Weaver earned the assist.
The Muskies crept to within three at 9-6 with a goal midway through the fourth. Heidelberg, though, was able to drain the clock while adding a pair of goals -- one from Hodson and one by Weaver.
