MLAX: Berg falls in finale

ALLIANCE, Ohio -- In the final game of the 2018 season, the Heidelberg University men's lacrosse team fell to the University of Mount Union, 12-4. The Student Princes wrap up their second season in school history with a 7-9 overall record, 1-7 in the OAC.

Sophomore Patrick McCarthy got the Berg on the board first with his 26th goal of the season off a pass from Matt Wernerspach five minutes into the game. The Purple Raiders scored twice before the end of the first.

Wernerspach concludes his career as a two-time team captain scoring 96 points in just two seasons at Heidelberg.

Mount outscored HU in the second quarter, 4-1, with the lone Berg goal coming off the stick of Nick Selfridge.

Up 6-2 at half, the Purple Raiders scored the first two goals of the third quarter before McCarthy scored again. His second goal of the game came off a feed from Selfridge.

Down 12-3 in the fourth, Liam Weaver wrapped up the scoring with an unassisted goal with 4:32 to play.

Goaltender Nick Bruder made 14 saves in the loss to Mount Union, finishing his freshman year with 179 saves.
