  • The 2021-22 school year is Gunnell's fifth at Heidelberg, and his second with the men's basketball team
  • Primary role on campus is Director of Multicultural Student Affairs
  • Began his tenure at Heidelberg as an assistant coach with the women's basketball team
  • Served as assistant women's basketball coach at the University of Rio Grande
  • Named to the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's (WBCA) Thirty Under 30 list, highlighting the top up-and-coming coaches at all levels of women's basketball (March 2017)

2020-21

  • Assisted with the men's basketball team

2019-20

  • Assisted the women's basketball team to a 8-17 (4-14 OAC) record
  • Helped Maddy Crawford and Brooke Beamer earn All-OAC accolades
  • Mentored five Academic All-OAC selections

2018-19

  • Led the men's golf team to a fifth place OAC finish and the women to a sixth overall placing
  • Guided Andrew Sikorski and Autumn Simpson to All-OAC accolades on the golf course
  • Mentored Maddy Crawford and Alyssa Riley to All-OAC honors on the hardwood
  • Assisted 10 in earning Academic All-OAC in both golf and basketball

2017-18

  • Led the men's team to a third place finsh and the women's team to a seventh place finish at the OAC Tournament
  • Mentored 7 Academic All-OAC players

2013-17

  • Spent four seasons as assistant with the Red Storm women's basketball program
  • Mentored four WBCA All-Americans and five all-conference players
  • Helped Rio Grande to an overall record of 81-43 over his tenure, including a 25-8 season in 2014-15
