FB: All-Region announced; Baker heads to Mexico

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- The postseason awards continue to stream in for Heidelberg football as senior Austin Baker and freshman Zachary Blackiston have been honored by D3football.com as All-North Region performers this season.

After both being selected to the OAC first-team already this year, Baker has earned his second straight all-region recognition while Blackiston is making his first appearance on the list.

Baker led the nation in punting this season with 43.7 yards per punt en route to his second first team selection in a row. In week nine, Baker garnered national attention as he hit a 95-yard punt at John Carroll University - breaking an NCAA Division III record set back in 2014.

Also this season, Baker earned OAC Special Teams Player of the Week on two occasions for his efforts in weeks seven and nine.

The honor was bestowed on Baker on the same day he departs for the 2018 Aztec Bowl in Mexico City.  He will play for Team USA All-American Eagles on Saturday at Olympic Stadium alongside 41 other Division II and Division III standouts.  He is one of five players from an Ohio school to participate in the historic all-star game.

Blackiston, selected to the second-team, led the conference in total tackles (103), was second in tackles per game (10.3), second in total sacks (11.5), and was fourth in total tackles for a loss (16.5). For his outstanding introduction to college football, Blackiston was selected as the OAC Defensive Player of the Week in week one vs. Olivet after compiling 16 total tackles and 4.5 for a loss.

Blackiston also ranked in the Top 50 nationally in three categories - total tackles (34th), tackles for a loss (34th), and sacks (12th).

The teams, selected in balloting by North Region sports information directors and D3football.com staff, were chosen from 212 nominations by Division III member schools. A total of 76 players were chosen. Players nominated for All-Region are eligible to be considered for D3football.com All-America honors, which will be announced the evening of Dec. 14, in D3football.com's pregame coverage for Stagg Bowl XLVI.  This is the 10th-straight season that Heidelberg has had two All-North Region honorees.
