ALLIANCE, Ohio -- After battling to salvage splits in their three previous OAC doubleheaders, the Heidelberg University baseball team swept the University of Mount Union on the road. A 3-2 nailbiter was followed by a 9-3 victory as the Student Princes picked up their first road sweep of the year.

Kyle Jenkins had a four-hit day while Mike Warden, Tyler Smith, Zach Doran and Parker Fronk tallied three hits apiece. With a multitude of extra-base hits, Heidelberg slugged .527 as a team.

The Student Princes improved to 19-8 overall, 7-3 in the OAC. Mount Union dropped to 16-10, 3-7.

Game One: HEIDELBERG 3 MOUNT UNION 2

Scoreless through two innings, Heidelberg benefitted from a passed ball on a strike out as Mike Warden reached base. Kane Bateman then doubled to left field which allowed Warden to motor home for the game's first run.

The Berg then took advantage of a pair of doubles in the fourth to set up the rest of their scoring. After Jake Davis led off with an two-bagger to left, he advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt. Zach Doran's double to center field allowed Davis to score. Warden then collected an RBI with a single out the line in left that brought Doran home from second.

Mount then got a pair of runs with two outs on a two-run single from Coleman Stauffer in the bottom of the sixth.

Trevor Adkins got back to winning ways in game one as the lefty lasted 5.2 innings and struck out seven Purple Raider batters. Adkins was responsible for four hits and two earned runs, but the Berg bullpen closed out the game for Adkins' third win of the season. Mason Metz worked a scoreless inning, but departed with the bases full. Brady Knizner entered and got out of the jam. He would work 1.1 innings. Joey Wenning earned the save -- his league-leading seventh of the year.

Game Two: HEIDELBERG 9 MOUNT UNION 3

As they did in the opener, Heidelberg broke a scoreless tie in the third inning. After Tyler Smith and Doran singled to start the frame, Warden hit a run-scoring double to center. Doran later scored on a wild pitch.

The Purple Raiders cut the 'Berg lead in half with a run on a bases-loaded double play off of Alex Sir Louis in the fourth.

Heidelberg broke the game open with a five-run fifth inning. Smith, Doran and Warden doubled to start the inning. Bateman plated another with an RBI ground out. With Warden on third, Jenkins singled up the middle. Ahead 5-1, Matt Psychas blasted a two-run home run to left -- capping the outburst.

The Purple Raiders plated single runs in the sixth and seventh, getting within striking distance at 7-3.

Parker Fronk unloaded on a homer to right -- a solo shot to lead off the eighth. Later in the inning, Warden -- who was hit by a pitch -- moved to third on a Bateman single and scored on a hit by Jenkins.

Sir Louis (5-1) worked seven full innings and allowed three runs on 12 hits. He struck out four. Tristan Phillips struck out two and allowed one hit in two innings of scoreless relief.
