BASE: Berg bats quiet in loss

TIFFIN -- A sloppy day at Peaceful Valley hurt the Heidelberg University baseball team in a 9-1 loss to Denison University. The Student Princes committed four errors on the day, while having just three hits.

Matt Psychas doubled off the wall in left center in the bottom of the first, and was brought home on an RBI single by Kyle Slovick as the lone Student Prince run.

Denison scored one in the second off HU starter Cameron Deemer.

The Big Red took the lead in the seventh, scoring three runs. The visitors crushed three doubles in the frame.

In the bottom of the inning, Heidelberg loaded the bases with one out. Denison's Mikey Rivera came in to relieve Taylor Perrett and got back-to-back Student Prince strikeouts, deflating all HU momentum.

The visitors tacked on four in the eighth and one in the ninth, cruising to the win.

Deemer (5-5) suffered the loss for the Berg. The sophomore struck out seven over 6.2 innings, allowing three unearned runs.

The Berg is back in action on Saturday at Wilmington for an OAC twinbill. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
