TIFFIN, Ohio – For the first time in the five year history of the event, the Heidelberg University volleyball team hosted the Great Lakes Crossover at Frann's Fieldhouse. The Student Princes finished the weekend 2-2.
Against Hiram, the women fell after battling through five sets: 25-18, 19-25, 27-25, 19-25, 12-15.
The team posted eleven blocks, over tripling Hiram's three.
Sophia Simon led the way with 16 kills and six blocks.
Berg went on to face Allegheny, defeating them in three sets: 25-20, 25-20, 25-16. Heidelberg started out strong, hitting .406 in the first set. Simon recorded 10 kills and three blocks.
The Student Princes kicked off day two against Case Western Reserve. After a slow start, Berg came back to win the second set and fought hard through three and four: 15-25, 25-17, 22-25, 23-25.
Emily Miller tallied eleven kills and two aces.
Maddie Reed led with 25 assists.
The final game against Hanover resulted in a Heidelberg victory. After winning the first and third sets, the match went into a nailbiting fourth. Tied at 24 points each, Berg pulled away to cinch the win- 26-24.
Soraya Jackson led the team with 15 kills, hitting .667.
Sophia Simon was close behind with 14 kills, hitting .609.
Olivia Miller and
Maddie Reed both recorded over 20 assists.
The Student Princes will travel to Oberlin on Wednesday, the 9th. They will face off with the Yeomen at 7 p.m.
