ALLIANCE, Ohio -- The Heidelberg University Lacrosse team lost on the road at Mount Union on Friday, falling 26-5. The Student Princes dipped to 4-8 overall.
Down 5-0 in the first,
Wilson Runnette made a save and scooped up the ground ball. Wasting little time, he launched the ball down the field. A fortuitous bounce went right to
Kaivin Jones. Gratefully, the freshman quickly put HU on the board. The assist was the first point by a 'Berg goalkeeper since current assistant
Alex Bruder notched a helper against Capital on April 21, 2018.
Jones scored again in the second. Slipping down the left wing, he received a pass from behind the cage from
Malachai Davis, and beat the Mount keeper.
Up a man in the third quarter,
Mario Manzardo skipped a shot into the lower left corner of the net.
The Berg scored twice in the fourth. Manzardo tallied his second of the game -- this time down a man. After creating some space, he took the ball up top and back-handed it into the net.
Rayce Septer scored HU's final goal, cutting left before going right from up top. With room, he beat the goalie from about 14 yards out.
Runnette made 15 saves in the first three quarters.
Sean McGee had four stops in the final 15 minutes.
Heidelberg is scheduled to return to action at home against Muskingum.
