NOTRE DAME, Indiana -- The Heidelberg University STUNT team emerged from their opening weekend of the season with a 1-3 record. The event was hosted by Saint Mary's College.
Heidelberg opened with an 8-1 romp over St. Norbert. After partner stunts in the first quarter, the match was tied at 1. HU would add one point in pyramids and tosses before halftime. In the third quarter (tumbling), the Student Princes won two points. In the fourth, HU removed all doubt with a point in the first routine and three in the second.
The Student Princes lost to Maryville, 9-5, in the second game on Saturday. Maryville led at half, 4-1, and outscored Heidelberg in the third, 3-2. Each team scored two points in the fourth quarter.
Heidelberg opened up Sunday against the defending national champion George Fox. Despite the 16-1 final score, Heidelberg picked up a point in the third quarter.
The STUNT team closed out the weekend with a nailbiter against Centenary, ultimately falling, 8-6. In the first quarter, HU won the first routine, but Centenary won the second. Centenary would add two points in the second. The squads split the points in the third, and both took three points in the fourth quarter.
Now in its third year of competition, Heidelberg STUNT boasts a roster of 17 student-athletes.
The Student Princes will host their first-ever home event on March 1, welcoming Hiram and Olivet to Seiberling Gymnasium.
