Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

MBB finds redemption at Marietta

MARIETTA, Ohio -- From the opening tip to the final buzzer, the Heidelberg University Men's Basketball team set the tone and never let up, earning a 107-86 road win over Marietta College on Saturday afternoon. The win avenged a loss to the Pioneers in Tiffin in January.

Heidelberg controlled the game from the opening minutes, using efficient shooting and balanced scoring to overwhelm Marietta. The Student Princes shot a blistering 61.9% from the field and 46.7% from the three-point range, racing out to a 54-40 halftime advantage before pouring in another 53 points in the second half to steal the win.

Trey Killens led the charge with 25 points, five assists, and three steals. Jarveil Gainey added 23 points on 9-of-13 shooting, while Brady Bosma scored 20 points and knocked down four triples. Riley Gossom rounded out the offensive surge with 19 points, giving The Berg four players in double figures. Marcos Vazquez facilitated the offense throughout the afternoon, dishing out a game-high seven assists.

The Student Princes dominated inside as well, scoring 46 points in the paint and adding 14 fast break points. Heidelberg's defense forced turnovers that turned into quick offense, helping stretch the lead past 20 midway through the second half and keeping Marietta from mounting any serious comeback attempt.

With the victory, Heidelberg improves to 12-11 overall and 6-8 in conference play, building momentum as the regular season enters the final week.

Heidelberg is set to travel to Baldwin Wallace Wednesday, Feb. 18, with tipoff scheduled for 7 p.m. A win for the Student Princes in Berea would clinch a spot in the OAC Tournament.
