Box Score 2 TIFFIN – Due to field conditions in Portage County, the Heidelberg University Softball team played visitors to Hiram College on Tuesday, with Frann's Field serving "home" for the Terriers. Hiram took the opening game, 10-5,
GAME ONE: HIRAM 10, HEIDELBERG 5
Facing Darian Kanno, the National Pitcher of the Week, Heidelberg wasted no time setting the tone in the first inning.
Leah Arnett led off with a stand-up triple, immediately putting pressure on Hiram.
Ellie Tressler followed with a sharp single to right center, bringing Arnett home and giving the Student Princes an early lead.
Gabbie Stallbaum then reached third on a dropped fly ball, allowing Tressler to score and make it 2-0.
Abbie Marshall kept the momentum going with a single to left center, plating Stallbaum and extending Heidelberg's lead to 3-0.
After a quiet second inning, Heidelberg struck again in the third. Arnett continued her strong day at the plate with a leadoff single up the middle. Stallbaum capitalized on an error in center field to reach second, putting runners in scoring position.
Emma Dean stepped up and delivered a crucial double down the right field line, driving in both Arnett and Stallbaum to push the lead to 5-1.
Despite the early offensive surge, Heidelberg's bats fell silent in the later innings. Hiram responded with six runs in the fifth to take control of the game, ultimately securing a 10-5 victory.
GAME TWO: HEIDELBERG 10, HIRAM 5
Heidelberg got things going early in game two. With two outs,
Ellie Tressler singled to right field, and just three pitches later,
Gabbie Stallbaum sent a deep shot over the left field fence to give the Berg an early 2-0 lead.
The Student Princes tacked on two more in the third, plating a run on a Stallbaum ground out and a double to the base of the right field wall by Dean.
Hiram answered with two in the bottom of the fourth, but
Kamryn Rastigue came on in relief and got the third out.
HU responded quickly, plating three in the top of the fifth. With one on, Stallbaum sent a ball into orbit -- launching a two-run homer over the scoreboard in right center. The homer, her sixth of the season, gave HU a 6-2 advantage.
Aubrey Baker drew a bases-loaded walk later in the inning, picking up her first RBI of the season.
Ahead 7-3 in the top of the sixth, The Berg added two.
Jade Torres had an RBI single and
Megan Miller walked with the bases loaded.
Hiram added two in the bottom of the sixth, but HU answered in the top of the seventh. Undoubtedly energized by a new playlist over the sound system, Tressler bounced a solo homer off the orange fence cap in left center.
Rastigue worked a scoreless seventh, improving to 2-1 on the season.

Heidelberg is currently slated to action on Saturday, at Alma College. The first game of the doubleheader is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start -- but may be moved to Friday because of the weather forecast. Updates will be posted at BergAthletics.com
