GAME ONE: Calvin 10-11-0 Heidelberg 2-6-3
With the first three runners on base and no outs, the Student Princes turned around a sticky situation into three outs quickly.
Emma Dean grabbed a fly ball at short followed by a double play by
Caitlynn Newlen at second who made a running catch and dove to the base for the out.
Calvin would go up 6-0 until
Gabbie Stallbaum hit her third homer of the season in the bottom of the fourth.
Heidelberg saw some action again in the sixth when
Ellie Tressler picked up an RBI off of a double to left center. Stallbaum started things off with a walk, followed by a single from Dean to move her to second before Tressler's bomb put a tally on the board.
Calvin put up four more to close the game with a 10-2 victory.
Jessica Voitko (3.1) and
Ryley Pittman (3.2) split in the circle, with Voitko picking up the loss.
Caitlynn Newlen led with two hits, both singles to left field. Voitko also contributed a single in the game.
GAME TWO: Marian 11-14-3 Heidelberg 10-13-3
This week's third game to go into extra innings ended in a crushing loss for the Student Princes.
Featuring a unique lineup, Heidelberg found itself down 7-1 going into the fifth inning, with the lone 'Berg run coming on an RBI double by
Lillie Robeson. The Student Princes scored three times in the fifth, with doubles by Tressler and
Aubrey Conklin doing the damage.
After Marian added a run in the bottom of the fifth, The Berg drew closer with three runs in the sixth. Stallbaum forced in a run with a bases-loaded walk before Tressler slashed an RBI single to right. The final run scored on a fielder's choice and a muffed throw to third.
Leading 8-7 in the top of the seventh, Marian seemed as though they were going to waltz away with the victory. With pinch runner
Shannon Wyatt on second and two outs,
Jade Torres hit a routine grounder to the pitcher, McKenna Repovich. Repovich's perfect, chest-high throw was mishandled by the first baseman, which allowed Wyatt to sprint home with the tying run.
After holding Marian scoreless in the seventh, the weary Student Princes were in extra innings yet again. With one out, Tressler singled home the runner placed on second,
Hannah Hashman, for the go ahead run. Tressler, known for her speed, blazed to third base on an errant pickoff throw by the catcher. She scored an insurance run when Conklin delivered another RBI single up the middle.
Voitko, who entered in relief in the sixth, retired the first two Marian hitters. A soft single to the left side put runners on the corners before Katelyn Matenaer delivered a crushing two-run double to right center. HU opted to intentionally walk the next two batters. With the bases full, Kendall Pliner won it for Marian by reaching on an error, forcing in the game-winner.
