Game Recap: Softball |

Manic Monday -- SB drops two

TIFFIN -- Despite four hits -- including a home run and two triples -- by Gabbie Stallbaum, the Heidelberg University Softball team was swept in a non-conference doubleheader by Hiram on Monday. The Terriers rallied for a 6-3 win in the opener and followed it up with a 7-1 victory in the night cap.

In addition to Stallbaum's stellar day at the plate, Murissa Drown added four hits.

Heidelberg dropped to 7-11 on the season and Hiram moved to 8-8.

GAME ONE:  HIRAM 6-10-0   BERG 3-6-3

Down 1-0 in the third, Morgan Woycitzky led off with a bunt single. After stealing second, she trotted home when Gabbie Stallbaum unleashed her sixth home run of the season -- a long line drive that cleared the center field wall by plenty. Ellie Tressler followed with a walk, then took second on a wild pitch. Not bunting, Murissa Drown rifled a double to the gap in right center, scoring Tressler.

Heidelberg took their 3-1 lead into the fifth, but the Terriers tied the game with a pair of runs on two hits. Three unearned runs in the top of the sixth were disastrous for the Student Princes, who were unable to push any more runs across.

Jessica Voitko (L, 1-7) took the loss, though only three of the six runs were earned in her 5.2 innings. Ryley Pittman threw 1.1 innings and did not allow a hit.

GAME TWO:  HIRAM 7-12-0   BERG 1-8-2

Heidelberg took a lead in the bottom of the first in the nightcap .Stallbaum mashed a triple up the alley in right center, then scored on an infield single by Tressler.

In the top of the third, five Hiram hits and two costly 'Berg errors led to a five-run explosion for the visitors -- with all five runs being unearned.

Hiram tacked on two more in the fifth and led 7-1, a lead they would carry for the duration of the contest.

Kailyn Kroll (L, 3-1) threw 4.1 innings, giving up seven runs (two earned), and striking out three. Pittman, out of the bullpen again, threw 2.2 scoreless innings. She fanned four.

UP NEXT:

Heidelberg is scheduled to host Alma College on Wednesday for a non-conference twinbill. The doubleheader will begin at 3 p.m.
