ADA -- The Heidelberg University Wrestling team placed eighth at the NCAA Division III Central Regional Tournament, with five wrestlers finishing in the top eight.

TJ Rhamy came agonizingly close to qualifying for a spot at nationals at 174. He dropped his opening match on Friday, forcing him into a massive uphill battle. The journey started with a pair of major decision wins over Christian Tesnow (OWU, 17-4) and Mitchell Reynolds (Olivet, 11-2). Next, he upended David Cox (Manchester, 11-4) then got past Owen McDaniel (Albion, 8-5).

One win away from punching his ticket to nationals, Rhamy wrestled Carter Lloyd (BW). Tied at four after the first period, Rhamy escaped early in the second and held a 5-4 lead. Lloyd registered a takedown to regain the lead, but Rhamy escaped before the end of the period and trailed 7-6.  Lloyd started down and escaped early in the third. Content with an 8-6 lead, Lloyd danced around the final 80 seconds. He yielded a stalling point, but still emerged with the heartbreaking 8-7 win.

Drew Miller had the toughest draw at 141, falling to the undefeated Jacob Reed (ONU). Like Rhamy, Miller marched through the consolation bracket. He teched Gabe Bulugaris (OWU, 15-0) and beat Jett Boots (Trine, 11-6). After walloping Jorden Zigo (MSJ, 25-8), his national aspirations came to an end against Dylan Phelps (Olivet). In the match for 5th, Miller lost again.

Adam Medeiros won his opening match, pinning Kyle De Moss (Otterbein, 2:52). An overtime loss pushed the 'Berg veteran into the wrestlebacks. He teched Garrett Iobe (Albion, 19-3) then beat Juwan Vines (Olivet, 13-5).  Still two wins away from qualifiying, Medeiros faced Dylan Wellbaum (Adrian). A takedown with 35 seconds left proved to be enough to secure a 10-9 win for Wellbaum. Medeiros lost the 5th-place match and finished 6th at 184.

David Gelman (133) and Demitirius Hernandez (285) both went 3-2 on the day and placed 7th.

Anthony Grecol (157) and Aidan Belgiorno (197) both won twice but did not place.
