Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

MLAX gives Sinnema his first W

CINCINNATI -- Outshooting the hosts by a +50 margin, the Heidelberg University Men's Lacrosse team picked up its first win of the season. The Student Princes outshot Mount St. Joseph, 61-11, en route to a 9-5 victory -- the first career win for Head Coach Ryan Sinnema

Jacob Brickman and Ben Evans each scored three goals while Rayce Septer and Tyler Alexander each picked up a goal and an assist.

Defensively, HU caused 20 turnovers -- five by Kevin Smith and four by Jacob Morgan. Sonny Varrati caused three and picked up a game-high nine ground balls.

Septer won the opening faceoff and, 38 seconds later, gave Heidelberg a 1-0 lead.

Despite peppering the Lions goal with eight shots, the Student Princes weren't able to find the back of the net for the next nine minutes. Jacob Brickman took a feed from Jonathan Marty and scored, giving HU a 2-0.

Down 2-0 in the second, MSJ got on the board with a man-up goal. Heidelberg answered four minutes later when Braxton Hammond found Ben Evans for a tally.

Jacob Brickman scored again, a mere 47 seconds after Evans. Then, in the closing seconds of the half, Brickman completed the hat trick. His third goal of the game, coming with 0:04 left, gave HU a 5-1 lead at the break.

Jacob Murray scored three of MSJ's four goals in the third, but 'Berg goals by Jacob Morgan and Tyler Alexander helped the visitors preserve a 7-5 edge.

Evans scored the only two goals of the fourth quarter, completing his hat trick with a man-up goal in the final minute of the game.

Goalkeeper Wilson Runnette made one save on the day.

The =50 shot margin was HU's best since they outshot Anderson 75-19 in a 27-6 win in 2019 … Jacob Brickman's hat trick was the first of his career … Evans now has four career 3+ goal games.
