ANGOLA, Ind. – With nine placers, the Heidelberg University Wrestling team enjoyed a successful day at the Mid-States Invitational, hosted by Trine University. Heidelberg's 15 active wrestlers combined for 17 pins, four tech falls and two major decision victories.
Adam Mederios headlined the day for HU, going 3-1 at 184. Though he fell in the finals, the Californian picked up a pin and two techs on the journey.
The Student Princes had two on the proverbial podium at 157.
Anthony Grecol had a pin and a tech en route to a 5-1 record and a third-place finish.
Sam Thompson lost his opener before rattling off four straight wins, including his first collegiate pin. He placed sixth.
HU also had two place at 174.
TJ Rhamy was 4-1 with two pins and a major. Placing third, his lone loss came in overtime.
Owen Frizzell racked up a pin in four of his five wins, going 5-2 and placing fifth.
Claude Buckmaster brought home a fourth-place finish at 149. His journey included a pin and a major.
After scoring the decisive victory in Thursday's OAC Dual win over John Carroll,
Demitrius Hernandez was sixth at 285. He started 2-1 with two pins before taking medical forfeits for the remainder of the event.
At 165,
Carter Mock went 4-2 and took seventh. He snared a pair of pins.
It was feast-or-famine for Josh Gibson at 141. He went 3-3, with all three victories coming via pin. He took home eighth place.
Heidelberg returns to action on March 1 at the NCAA Regional Tournament. This year's event will be hosted by Ohio Northern. The top three placers at each weight class will advance to the NCAA Championships in Lacrosse, Wisc., on March 15.
