Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Dohanyos hits 1,000 in win at BW

BEREA -- The Heidelberg University Volleyball team snapped a five-game conference skid with a 3-1 win at Baldwin Wallace on Wednesday. The Student Princes won an extremely close third set, then opened up a big lead in the fourth, winning 25-22, 24-26, 27-25, 25-16.

In the process, libero Grace Dohanyos became the 24th player in program history to reach 1,000 career digs. She finished with 18 on the evening.

Rylee Ritzhaupt had a team-high 12 kills and Lexi Wachtman had 10 in the victory. Gabby Wolfe hit .467, finishing with seven kills and three total blocks.

As they have all season, Maddie Reed and Olivia Miller dished up the offense. Reed had 29 assists and Miller had 20.

After BW evened up the match in extra points in the second set, Heidelberg looked to close out the third up 23-21. BW took the next two points, prompting a timeout from Head Coach Jason Miller. Grace Porter gave HU a 24-23 lead, but a BW kill and a block put the hosts in position to take the pivotal set. Wachtman tied the set with a kill, before an attack error put HU back in a position to win. Porter blocked an attack, winning the point and the set.

BW imploded early in the fourth, gifting Heidelberg three attack errors and a bad set. Heidelberg led 7-1, and would lead by as many as nine in the fourth. Wachtman put a bow on the win with a kill.

Despite the win, Heidelberg was eliminated from contention for the six-team OAC Tournament.

Heidelberg returns home for Senior Day on Saturday against Otterbein. The game time has been moved to 11:30 a.m. in Seiberling Gymnasium.
