Women's Soccer clinches tourney berth

BEREA -- Olivia Perry's goal in the 60th minute helped the Heidelberg University Women's Soccer team secure a 1-1 draw at Baldwin Wallace on Wednesday night. In the process, the Student Princes -- picked ninth in the preseason poll -- clinched a berth in the OAC Tournament for the first time since 2021.

After conceding a goal off a corner kick in the 47th minute, Heidelberg drew their own corner kick in the 60th. Syd Hewer laid the ball into the edge of the six-yard box where Perry, seemingly unmarked, redirected it into the net.

The final 30 minutes yielded several great looks for each side. 'Berg goalkeeper Brigid Enright made a critical save in the 84th minute to preserve the tie. In the final minute of action, Alayna Hahn took a pass from Brianna Braatz and levied a shot at the goal, but it sailed high.

Enright finished with 10 saves.

The regular season concludes on Saturday when Heidelberg hosts Otterbein. With one game left in the regular season, HU and the Cardinals are tied for fourth, each with 12 points. The winner would clinch a first round home game.

John Carroll and Ohio Northern have secured first-round byes, but play each other on Saturday, with the winner taking the regular season crown. Capital sits in third with 14 points. Marietta and Wilmington square off on Saturday, with the Quakers needing a win to leapfrog the Pioneers for the final spot in the six-team tournament.

Kickoff at the Hidden Valley Soccer Complex is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday.
