WHEATON, Illinois -- The Heidelberg University Wrestling team limped into the famed Pete Willson Wheaton Invitational -- considered by many as the biggest litmus test for Division III wrestling -- with a truncated lineup . Seven 'Berg wrestlers competed, picking up six victories.

133-pounder David Gelman had HU's best showing. In the opening round, he walloped Gage Vincent (Alma) -- hitting for the back-points cycle (2 nearfall, 3 nearfall and 4 nearfall) in the first period alone. A takedown early in the second secured the tech fall -- his second of the season.

After falling into the consolation bracket, Gelman marched on with a first-period pin of Chris Karbash (UW-Platteville) -- his team-high 21st victory of the season. Gelman's run ended in his next match. After escaping late in the third period to tie his bout with Jackson Rustad (Chicago), Gelman lost in sudden-victory.

Brenden Yob, Drew Miller, Claude Buckmaster and Demitrius Hernandez all had one win on Friday.

Heidelberg will have ample time to rest and recuperate before returning to the mats. HU visits John Carroll for the final OAC Dual of the season on Feb. 15.
