NORTH MANCHESTER, Indiana -- The Heidelberg University Wrestling Team had four placers at the Spartan Mat Classic hosted by Manchester University. As a team, the Student Princes were eighth overall.
Drew Miller and
Adam Medeiros finished third,
Anthony Grecol was sixth and
David Gelman took seventh.
Miller's romp to the semifinals at 141 was emphatic. He opened with a 20-4 tech fall and followed it up with a pair of first-period pins. After losing in the semifinals, Miller rebounded with a hard-fought 12-7 win over Hudson Andrews (Huntingdon) in the third-place match.
At 184, Medeiros opened with a pin 17 seconds into his first bout. An 11-4 win sent him to the semifinals, where he lost. In the match for third, he wasted little time -- pinning Eddie Williams (Alma) in 15 seconds.
Grecol began his run at 157 with a second-period pin. A loss in the quarterfinals sent him into the consolations, where he started with an 11-4 win. After a 5-2 win, he fell in the match for fifth.
Gelman lost his opener and had to wrestle uphill for the remainder of the day. In the consolations, he picked up a 67-second pin and a 15-5 major decision. Following a loss, he teched Josiah Petersen (Cornerstone), 15-0.
Brenden Yob, Josh Gibson,
Owen Frizzell and
Nate St. Bernard all had a win on the day.
Heidelberg returns home for their next four duals. HU wrestles Mount Union at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, then serves as host for the OAC Quad Duals on Saturday. The Berg will take on Wilmington, Otterbein and Ohio Northern, starting at 11 a.m.
