MARIETTA, Ohio – An aggressive team of Marietta Pioneers bested the Heidelberg University men's lacrosse team on Saturday afternoon. Three Student Princes scored in the 13-4 loss in the opening match of Ohio Athletic Conference play.
In goal for The Berg was
Wilson Runnette, making 14 saves – his sixth consecutive in double digits.
Scoring for Heidelberg was
Tyler Alexander with three, followed by
Benjamin Evans and
Jacob Brickman at one apiece.
Marietta started out the match with two goals in the front half of the first quarter. At 4:32, Brickman bounced in a goal for his fifth of the season. Unrelenting, the Pioneers found one more just under two minutes for a 3-1 edge.
In the second, HU held off the hosts until 7:38 as they scored off of a reversal. They would lay in one final shot with two seconds left to close 5-1.
Marietta entered the second half strong as they piled on three more goals in the first five minutes, increasing their lead to 8-1.
One of the best 'Berg goals of the game came from Evans at 8:51 as he drove up the middle, spun on the defender and drilled it into the back of the net.
After a delay due to the strong winds blowing the shot clock away, the Pioneers responded with two consecutive goals for a 10-2 advantage.

Maximillian Hatty, Alexander had a clean shot for his 13th season goal in the first minute of the fourth.
Alexander picked up his second goal of the day making the score 12-4 with 11 minutes remaining. Three minutes later, diving through the middle, Evans found Alexander for his third of the game.
Not far behind, Heidelberg took 35 shots compared to the victors' 41.
In the face offs, the Septer brothers managed eight wins.
Heidelberg falls to 3-4 on the season. They will continue their OAC campaign on Wednesday as they play host to Ohio Northern (6-2, 1-0 OAC) for a 7 p.m. start time.
