Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

WSOC celebrates senior day

TIFFIN – On Saturday afternoon, the Heidelberg University women's soccer team faced Wilmington College in the final match of the season. On a slippery and mushy grass field, aggression and eagerness to win were present from both sides. Unfortunately, the Student Princes fell 1-0 on Senior Day.

Before the game, six seniors – Riley Ireland, Kaylee Cobb, Mackenzie Damsa, Madi Lause, Katelynn Helminiak and Chloe Grevious -- were honored. Three graduate students – Meredith Bruce, Megan Hamilton and Liv Bean -- were honored as well.

The first half held 0-0, as the Quakers controlled much of the game, outshooting The Berg 11-3. Caitlyn Cross, Mallary Zavatchen and Yaniah Powell each had scoring potential in the first.

Six minutes out of the half, the guests sent a pass from the right side of the box that soared over goalie Meredith Bruce and was knocked in by Wilmington's MJ Little.

In an intense and hostile playing environment, Megan Hamilton took a shot on goal in the 81st minute. Flying in the high center of the net, Quaker goalie Emma Stork made the save.

In her final game in goal for Heidelberg, Bruce tallied six saves. In program history, she sits fifth with 422 saves, tied for fourth with 24 wins, and tied for fifth with 12 shutouts.

The Heidelberg women's soccer team wrapped up their season 4-10-2, 2-7 OAC. They picked up wins against Thiel (7-0), Bluffton (1-0), Muskingum (1-0) and Mount Union (2-1).

Lause led the team with six goals. Finishing with 21 career goals, she sits at the 14th most in Heidelberg program history. Makenzie Damsa and Cross both marked two assists on the season.

Mallory Zavatchen, Alayna Hahn, Yaniah Powell and Brooke Warnock all saw their career-first goals this season.
