Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's soccer falls short to Oberlin

TIFFIN -- In one of the best matchups of the early season, the Heidelberg University women's soccer team came up short, falling to Oberlin College, 2-1.

The first half was remarkably even, as both teams took seven shots and had two saves. The only difference maker was Heather Benway of Oberlin, who scored two back-to-back unassisted goals just two minutes apart.

Down 2-0, the single goal for The Berg came in the 34th minute from Makenzie Damsa off of an assist by Megan Hamilton. The tally was Damsa's third of the season.

Heidelberg took control in the second half, getting more aggressive, and overall outshot the Yeowomen, 10-7. Bekah Thomas had an early shot that was saved but helped provide momentum. While the Student Princes struggled to convert, the ball was kept near the Oberlin net for much of the half.

Meredith Bruce was back in goal for Heidelberg and had six saves.  Oberlin had five saves.

Hamilton had a team-high three shots on goal while Thomas tallied two of her own.

Up next for the Student Princes is a home match against Westminster.  The women's game is slated for a 1 p.m. kickoff, with the men's match to follow -- also against the Titans.
