Game Recap: Softball |

SB falls out of postseason contention

ADA -- With a shot at qualifying for the OAC Tournament at stake, the Heidelberg University softball team suffered a disappointing sweep at the hands of rival Ohio Northern University.  The host Polar Bears won the opener, 6-3, then won the nightcap, 2-1, in eight innings.

Heidelberg finishes the 2022 season with a 20-16 record, 9-9 overall.

GAME ONE:  ONU 6-11-2   BERG 3-6-1

Heidelberg got out in front in the top of the first. Kat Brady singled, stole second and scored on a double by Gabbie Stallbaum.  The Polar Bears responded with a three-run home run in the bottom of the inning.

Down 5-1, and after a lengthy lightning delay, Heidelberg cut the deficit in half in the sixth. Meghan Bame doubled to left and scored on a base hit by Jessica Voitko.  Later, Ryann Ramacciatti scored on a wild pitch.

ONU scored an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth and retired HU in order in the top of the seventh.

The loss, coupled with Otterbein's win at John Carroll, eliminated Heidelberg from postseason contention.

GAME TWO: ONU 2-7-0   BERG 1-4-1

As they did in the first game, HU struck first blood in the first.  Brady singled and moved to second on a ground ball by Bame.  Emma Dean followed with a base hit through the left side that scored the speedy Brady.

ONU tied the game in the fourth.

Still 1-1 in the eighth, the Polar Bears used three hits to walk off with a win.
