GAME ONE: BERG 7-11-1 MTU 6-6-2 (9 Innings)
Kat Brady roasted the Mount left fielder in the first, leading off with a triple. She scored on a wild pitch.
Mount Union loaded the bases with no outs in the second, but only managed to score a single run. Catcher
Kalli Sowers helped mitigate the damage, throwing out a would-be base stealer -- her second of the game.
The game remained tied until the bottom of the sixth. Brady led off with a single -- her third hit of the game -- and stole second.
Meghan Bame, who leads the team in hits to the warning track, connected on a two-run homer to left. The home run was the first of Bame's career and the first for the Student Princes this season. With the bases empty,
Emma Dean was hit by a pitch. Pinch runner
Courtney Bryson moved to second on a ground out and scored on a two-out single by
Maddie Gossard.
The Purple Raiders, held to one hit through the first six innings, exploded for five runs in the top of the seventh. Hanna Ingram did the most damage, unleashing a three-run blast to left.
Down 6-4, Heidelberg rallied. A dropped pop up and a pinch hit single by
Aubrey Conklin got HU rolling. With two outs and runners on second and third, Bame delivered a single inside the line in left that tied the game.
In the bottom of the ninth, the Student Princes used a familiar script to win the game. Brady bounced a single up the middle. With one out, Bame slapped the ball deep down the right field line. After a long run, the right fielder couldn't make the play. Brady sped around the bases and scored easily.
Bame finished with three hits and five RBI in the game.
Payton Scheid (3-0) earned the win in relief, throwing 2.2 innings out of the bullpen. She allowed one run on two hits.
Caitlin Dems went 6.1 innings and allowed five runs on four hits.
GAME TWO: MTU 11-10-1 BERG 4-5-3
Mount Union roared out of the gates, scoring four times in the top of the first. The visitors added a run in the second and two in the fifth. In the sixth, Mount tacked on another four runs.
Heidelberg, meanwhile, struggled to solve MTU starting pitcher Peyton Morrison. Morrison didn't allow a run until the bottom of the sixth.
Hanna Blasinsky walked and Bame singled through the hole on the left side. Dean doubled to deep left, scoring Blasinsky.
Ryann Ramacciatti followed with a single to center that allowed Bame to score the run that staved off the mercy rule.
