SPRINGFIELD, Ohio -- Playing their fifth-straight road game to start the season, the well-traveled Heidelberg University women's lacrosse team lost to Wittenberg, 21-8. Five different Student Princes found the back of the net in the loss.
Heidelberg makes their home debut on Sunday at 1 p.m., hosting Alma College in Hoernemann Stadium.
Kelly Spence scored on a free-position shot 40 seconds into the game to give HU an early advantage. Less than 30 seconds later,
Brianna Lloyd doubled the 'Berg lead with a goal.
It took seven minutes for the Tigers to tie the game, but Lloyd struck again, which put HU up 3-2. Wittenberg, however, scored the next seven goals and led 9-3.
Heidelberg momentarily regained momentum with goals from
Kerry Hastings and
Hannah Kaplan and trailed 10-5 at halftime.
The Tigers outscored HU in the second half, 11-3. HU's goals were scored by Hastings, Kaplan and
Sydney Shaffer.
Ella Lane made 12 saves. Lloyd and Shaffer each scooped up four ground balls. Lloyd caused three turnovers.
