Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's soccer swarmed by Yellow Jackets

TIFFIN – On a brisk and windy afternoon in Hidden Valley, the Heidelberg University women's soccer team played Baldwin Wallace. Unable to capitalize on important plays, the Student Princes fell, 4-0.

Heidelberg falls to 5-7-2 (1-4 OAC) while Baldwin Wallace improves to 9-6 (4-2 OAC).

In the fourth minute, the Yellow Jackets scored their first goal. After a throw-in, the ball took a high bounce and was loose before goalie Meredith Bruce could get a hand on it. That's when Kasey Golaboff kicked it over Bruce, who was already on the ground diving for it.

Less than ten minutes later, Megan Hamilton had a powerful and close shot from right field. Unfortunately, there was nobody on the backside and the ball skimmed past the post.

Another golden opportunity for the 'Berg happened at 20:26 when Maddie Lause got the ball in the middle of the box and passed it left to Caitlyn Cross. On a quick touch, she ran into diving goalie Katie Scott, who managed to save the shot.

In the 31st minute, Baldwin Wallace found their second goal. A very wide cross soared through the air, where Maddie Farrell picked it up and tucked it away into the net.

After Ainsley Tucker received a yellow card for tripping, the Yellow Jackets took a free kick. In the 41st minute, the kick was laid into the box where an unmarked Sydni Mudge snuck it past Bruce.

Fighting for her first collegiate goal, Hamilton took a shot that was one of the Student Princes best opportunities to score. In the 55th minute from the top of the box, she launched it just left of the goal in what would have been an empty net.

The opponents found their fourth goal in the 60th minute off of a penalty kick. At first, Bruce saved the shot but it bounced off and Baldwin Wallace's Ella Barth got a second, resulting in a 4-0 lead.

A last-opportunity shot from Makenzie Damsa came in the final seven minutes. She had a clear shot from the middle, but the Yellow Jacket goalie was in place to make the save.

In goal for the Tricolor was the veteran, Bruce. She had 13 saves – five from her career high of 18.

Heidelberg was outshot 27-17 but managed six shots on goal.

The Heidelberg women's soccer team will take the field at home one last time this Saturday as they face Marietta in a 2 p.m. kickoff. Prior to the game, there will be senior day recognitions.
