Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Berg blanks Terriers, 2-0

Hiram, OH – The Heidelberg University women's soccer team overpowered the Hiram College Terriers to capture the fifth victory consecutive of the campaign.

The Berg outperformed Hiram in the final third for the entire 90 minutes, finishing with a 23-8 shot advantage–13-7 shots on goal– and recording nine corner kicks, while the Terriers failed to register a corner. The victory moves the Student Princes to 5-1 overall as the Heidelberg women continue their best start in program history women since the 2000 squad (6-1). During the five-match win streak, the Berg is outscoring opponents 10-1 in the first half.

The Terries slide to 2-6 heading into North Coast Athletic Conference play.

In goal, junior netminder Meredith Bruce tallied seven saves en route to her third clean sheet of the season. Bruce's three shutout-performances is currently second-best in the Ohio Athletic Conference behind Ohio Northern's Kristy Catrine with four.

The Student Princes attack was once again firing all cylinders early on, dominating play in the attacking third. A slew of chances in the opening half-hour led to Makenzie Damsa finding the Berg's first goal of the contest in the 40th minute.

Heidelberg's leading goal-getter Audrey Kaufman assisted the Damsa score, marking Kaufman's fifth assist of the year. Despite other opportunities on net, the Heidelberg advantage remained 1-0 heading into the half.

The direct play from Heidelberg continued in the second stanza leading to the Berg's insurance goal in the 72nd minute. Sophomore Madi Lause beat Hiram keeper Skyler Huda to collect her seventh goal of the season and push the Berg ahead 2-0.

The Terries hung tough in the waning minutes of the contest, but stellar play from the Student Princes stymied any would-be attempt at a Hiram comeback.

From Interim Head Coach Madalynn McLaughlin:
"Great team win tonight. Weather conditions were definitely not ideal, but the ladies rose to the challenge and stayed connected. Hiram battled every minute and was well coached. Our back line played lights out. Sophia Jackson and Lexi Langwasser kept us composed and confident; the heart of our team. We still have a lot of room for improvement so we will enjoy this win, but back to work tomorrow as we prepare for the weekend."

Heidelberg women's soccer looks to make it six consecutive victories on Saturday, September 25 when they host St. Mary's College. Originally scheduled for a 1 p.m. kick off at the Hidden Valley Soccer Complex, the women's match has been moved to Hoernemann Stadium.

Kickoff for the women's match is scheduled for 3 p.m., following the men's game vs. Albion.
