UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio -- Despite being outshot 31-1, the Heidelberg University men's soccer team narrowly lost to host John Carroll University, 2-1, on a rain-soaked night at Don Shula Stadium.
Heidelberg dropped to 0-8 while the Blue Streaks improved to 7-0.
Scoreless at halftime, John Carroll got on the board less than three minutes into the second period.
In the 61st minute, goalkeeper
Thomas Abraham collected a ball in the box, then punted it to near midfield. Three quick touches by The Berg helped spring
Simon Joseph through the Blue Streak defense. As the goalkeeper quickly closed in, Joseph used his only touch to right-foot the ball into the goal from just outside the penalty area.
Tied at 1, JCU retook the lead four minutes later -- a lead they would not relinquish.
John Carroll led in shots on goal 10-1 and in corner kicks 19-0
Abraham collected seven saves in goal for The Berg.
The Student Princes will conclude their 2021-21 season on Sunday in Hoernemann Stadium with kickoff slated for 2 p.m. Three seniors will be honored before the game for senior day.
