Women’s soccer falls at Mount Union

Alliance, OH – The Heidelberg University women's soccer team dropped a Saturday afternoon bout to the Purple Raiders of Mount Union University, 3-1.

The Student Princes found the breakthrough goal in the 20th minute when Riley Ireland fired a shot past Mount Union keeper Rylee Oldfield. The Student Princes pestered Oldfield numerous times throughout first half, but couldn't increase the advantage. Ireland led the Berg attack with three shots followed by a slue of Student Princes with one attempt.

The second half was all Mount Union despite the efforts of the Berg rearguard and junior netminder Meredith Bruce who finished with eight stops in the loss.

The Purple Raiders high-tempo attack materialized in the equalizing goal at the 69:14 mark. Five minutes later Mount's Andrea Decker put the Purple Raiders in front, 2-1 as Logan Godfrey recorded her second assist of the match. Decker netted her brace in the 77th minute putting the Berg behind, 3-1.

The Heidelberg attack stalled in the waning minutes of the match, and the Student Princes couldn't erase the deficit.

The Student Princes fall to 9-6-0 overall, 2-5-0 in Ohio Athletic Conference play, while the Purple Raiders improve to 9-5-1, 5-2-0 in the OAC.

Heidelberg women's soccer returns to the pitch on Wednesday, October 27 to battle the Blue Streaks of John Carroll.

Kick off from University Heights, Ohio is scheduled for 7 p.m.
