Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

HU rolls to 18-2 win

TIFFIN -- The Heidelberg University women's lacrosse team experienced their highs and lows on Thursday afternoon at home at Hoernemann Stadium.

Moments prior to running away with a resounding 18-2 win over Anderson University, the members of the Heidelberg University women's lacrosse team learned that their season -- like so many across the country -- was coming to a premature end because of COVID-19 precautions. Visit Heidelberg Athletics' release for more information.

The win moved HU to a perfect 4-0 record on the season. Anderson slipped to 0-3 with the loss.

Playing in what would most likely prove to be their final game of the season, the Student Princes ventured forward off the opening draw and never looked back in the controlling win.

After 10 minutes had elapsed, HU held onto a 3-0 lead after goals from Dana Dudley, Angela Lulejian, and Bri Casement got them off the mark.

Over the next 10 minutes of play, the Student Princes ramped up the pressure, scoring six more times before Anderson put one on the board with 9:36 remaining. In the scoring spree, Lulejian added three more, Jenna Carman netted twice, and Anna Winnicki bagged a free position goal to expand the lead.

After Samantha Huber briefly halted the Student Princes' onslaught, Winnicki answered back and set sail for a four-goal outburst before halftime. Dudley, Carman, and Winnicki all added additional tallies before the halftime intermission.

After the break, as time on the clock ran, HU expanded their lead to 16-1 with 19:06 remaining in the game. Dudley scored two free position attempts before Brianna Lloyd got on the score sheet.

Time continued to tick away as Heidelberg took their foot off the accelerator and took their time going to goal. Even with using the clock to their advantage, the Student Princes added goals from Casement and Carman before time expired.

Samantha Huber added another goal for the Ravens with 28 seconds left on the clock for consolation.

In total, Angela Lulejian, Dana Dudley, and Jenna Carman all scored four goals each, while Anna Winnicki tallied three, Bri Casement bagged two and Brianna Lloyd finished with one. Carman dished out three assists and Lulejian and Emmy Flottman-Mullen both had two helpers. Winnicki and Kelly Spence also had assists in the game.

Winnicki filled out her stat line with seven caused turnovers, five ground ball pick ups and four draw controls. Lulejian led the team with eight draw controls.

In the cage, Mandi Phillips earned her fourth win of the season after starting the game. Phillips stopped one shot. Ella Lane played the second half in goal and stopped three shots.

Madison Leonard had six saves on the afternoon for Anderson.
