OLIVET, Michigan -- The Heidelberg University women's soccer team withstood a plethora of offense by the Olivet College Comets on Saturday afternoon, but fell 1-0 after an 83rd minute strike found the back of the net.
With the loss, Heidelberg evens their record to 2-2, while Olivet improves to 2-1 on the season.
The Student Princes were kept in the game by goalkeeper
Meredith Bruce who set a new career best with seven saves.
Bruce was finally beaten by a strike late in the game by Olivet's Mary Mitchell who found the net from 25 yards out.
Offensively, Heidelberg only mustered five shots, with just three finding the frame.
Sophia Jackson came off the bench and was credited with two shots, both of which were on target.
Bekah Thomas was the only other Student Prince to find the frame with her shot attempt in the 12th minute.
Amanda Sugrue and
Amanda Nething were the others that were able to attempt a strike at goal, but could not find the frame.
Brooklyn Holley was only called upon once in net for Olivet, while her defense was credited with the other two saves.
Bruce's seven saves bring her season total to 17. With just the four contests played, Bruce is also carrying a 1.08 GAA.
After playing three matches in the space of four days, the Student Princes will have a brief respite, as they are idle until September 13, when they will travel to Adrian College for a 7 p.m. match.
