Ryan Newman earned his first career victory at Wooster on Wednesday -- literally. Newman, a sophomore, made two acrobatic saves in the final minutes of Heidelberg's 1-0 win over the Scots. Junior transfer
Kokai Minami scored the game's lone goal early in the second half, lifting the Student Princes to 1-1 on the young season.
The Fighting Scots (0-2) outshot the Student Princes, 17-4. However, Newman was equal to the task -- stopping all seven shots on frame.
Minami's goal, the first of the season for the Tricolor, came in the 55th minute. His shot came from outside the penalty area and beat the Wooster goalkeeper.
Bryce Zeleznik had three shots on the evening.
The win was Heidelberg's first victory at Wooster since 2012.
The Student Princes return to action in one week, as they welcome Adrian to Tiffin for their home opener -- a 4 p.m. match at the Hidden Valley Soccer Complex.
