Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

BETHANY, West Virginia -- The Heidelberg University softball team crossed the Ohio River and split a non-conference doubleheader with Bethany College. Heidelberg won game one, 8-2, before falling 9-6 in the nightcap.

With two regular season twinbills left on the schedule, the Berg is now 23-13.

Abbey McKee and Kaitlyn Moore paced the offense on the afternoon. McKee was 5 for 7 as Moore was 4 for 5. Both drove in four runs on the day.

GAME ONE: Heidelberg 8-11-1 Bethany 2-4-1

The Student Princes pounded out six runs in the third inning, all with two outs. Shelby Miller singled home Leah Bouillon and Casey Moore followed with a walk. With the bases loaded, McKee drove a single to center, plating Miller and Bailey Smith.

Kaitlyn Moore doubled to center to score her sister, Casey, and Haylee Patel capped off the HU scoring with a 2 RBI single to center.

The Bison scored one in the home half of the third on a wild pitch and a second run in the fourth.

McKee gave the Student Princes a commanding lead in the top of the seventh, belting her eighth home run of the season. Casey Moore scored on the hit, who reached via double.

Kaitlyn Moore (12-6) held the Bison to just four hits over seven innings of work. The sophomore fanned five and walked two.

GAME TWO: Bethany 9-13-1 Heidelberg 6-12-1

A small 1-0 lead was not enough for the Berg, as Casey Moore gave the visitors the lead after the top of the first.

The Bison tacked on four runs in the bottom of the inning, aided by Heidelberg pitching command struggles.

Kaitlyn Moore crushed a double to left center, scoring Miller to cut the Bethany lead in half after three innings.

A sac fly and a two-run home run pushed Bethany's lead to 7-2 after four.

Kaitlyn Moore drove in two more runs with a single in the fifth. Leah Bouillon added a two-run double in the seventh but the comeback fell short for the Berg.

Morgan Daniels (4-1) suffered the loss for Heidelberg.

The Student Princes reunited with Erin Chapman '17, who is a graduate assistant coach for the Bison.

Heidelberg is back at Frann's Field on Saturday when they host Wilmington College. In between games, the Berg will honor seniors Bailey Smith, Haylee Patel, Kaitlin Keys, Renee Lovett, and Abbey McKee. Game times are scheduled for 1 and 3 p.m.
