Rathfon, Kilway help WSOC stay perfect

Box Score

TIFFIN -- The Heidelberg University women's soccer team scored three goals in the first 20 minutes en route to a 3-1 win over Hiram College on Wednesday afternoon. The Student Princes improve to a perfect 3-0 on the season, the first time in the Nick Spell era. Hiram slips to 1-2 early in the season.

The first Berg goal came in the 9th minute, when Amanda Kilway slotted a perfect ball in the box. Sophomore Erica Campbell rifled a shot past the Hiram keeper for her second goal of the season.

In the 12th minute, Danielle Rathfon tacked on another goal for the home team. The junior took advantage of a loose ball in the box for her second goal of the year.

With a quick 2-0 deficit, the Terriers cut the HU lead in half. The Berg defense could not clear the ball off a corner kick, and Emily Syrjala capitalized. The goal cut the score to 2-1 in just the 16th minute.

Rathfon and the Student Princes responded to the HC goal, and added one more of their own. Kilway once more played a beautiful ball in the box and Rathfon headed it in for her second goal of the game.

The teams played to a gridlock for the remainder of the first half and most of the second half. Heidelberg had many scoring chances near the end of the match off corner kicks, but the HC defense was able to hold the score at 3-1.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

Alexandra Farmer picked up the win in goal for the Berg, making three saves in the match. After a keeper switch, Ally Green kept Hiram in the game with seven saves. Green made a number of diving stops to her left and right.

Kilway recorded two assists in the match, bringing her season total to three.

With her two goals, Rathfon has three career multi-goal games.
