Box Score

NEW CONCORD, Ohio --  The No. 25 Heidelberg University men's soccer team opened up OAC action with a rugged 2-1 win at Muskingum on Saturday.  Heidelberg scored early, and controlled the pace of play throughout much of the afternoon.

Heidelberg improved to 8-0 on the season, 1-0 in the OAC.  Muskingum dropped to 2-7-1.

"I think we played well enough to win today, but we still need to play a more complete 90 minutes," said Head Coach Pat Svihlik.  "I think today served as a good wake-up call for our guys as to the importance of the conference schedule."

Chase Paulson put the Student Princes on top in the fifth minute.  On a corner kick, Kiki Alvarado served in a ball that Paulson headed into the net.

Up 1-0 at halftime, the Tricolor added another goal in the 60th minute.  Cory Gilbert found space inside the penalty area and slotted a ball with the side of his foot into the side netting.

Scrambling, the hosts found the scoreboard in the 83rd minute, getting to within one.

Heidelberg maintained the possession over the final eight minutes, nearly putting away a third goal on several occasions.

The Student Princes welcome No. 6 John Carroll to the Hidden Valley Soccer Complex on Tuesday.  The matchup between the two ranked foes is slated for a 4 p.m. start
