Olivet overpowers Women's Soccer 2-0

Box Score

OLIVET – The Heidelberg University women's soccer team took to the road for the first time in 2015 on Friday, facing a non-conference foe, Olivet College. The 'Berg defense was able to withstand a quick attack from the Comets throughout most of the match, but it was not enough as the Student Princes fell for the first time by a score of 1-0.

KEY STATS

Heidelberg was out-shot by Olivet 23-7 in the match. The Berg tallied just three shots on goal while the host Comets' offense produced 12.

Freshman Alexandra Farmer put forth a solid effort in goal for the Student Princes, making 10 saves in the match.

The Berg was called for 15 fouls and one yellow card in the contest while Olivet was called for 12 fouls.

FIRST HALF

Early in the match, Olivet took control of the possession, but the Heidelberg defense was able to deny the home team thanks to three saves by Farmer in the opening 10 minutes. A pair of offsides calls against Olivet in the next five minutes halted their attack as well, but they broke through in the 15th minute to put the Student Princes behind by a goal.

The rest of the half remained scoreless, as Olivet got 13 shots off in the period, but only managed one goal. Heidelberg had one shot on goal in the 41st minute by Talia Tobin, but it was saved by the Olivet keeper.

SECOND HALF

Once again, Heidelberg had to withstand constant offense from Olivet, but they held up early. They were able to keep the deficit at just one going into the 58th minute when Darby Moloney got a shot on goal, but it was saved yet again by the goalkeeper.

The Student Princes had another shot on goal in the 72nd minute, but Kristen Keenan's attempt was stopped by the keeper.

The defense was unable to hold up through the entire period, however, as Olivet scored their second goal of the match in the 78th minute to create a two-goal deficit for the Student Princes.

The score would hold up until the end as Heidelberg dropped their first match of the season 2-0.

UP NEXT

Heidelberg will be in action again next Friday, September 11th, when they travel to Anderson University for another non-conference match. That contest is scheduled to kick off at 7:30 p.m.
